Welcome to the Community
The name of our neighborhood says it all, really: Greenwich Village. In a sprawling borough comprised largely of impersonally-named sectors like Upper West Side, Lower East side and Alphabet City, Greenwich Village has always suggested a rare sense of community. And what is a community if not a group of people that look out for one another in their time of need? It is this question that is at the heart of what we, The Caring Community, are all about.

Since our founding in 1973, the goal of The Caring Community has been to assist and empower the senior citizens of the Greenwich Village area to remain part of a thriving community environment for as long as they are willing and able. With the generous service of over 1000 volunteers and our dedicated core staff, we offer a wide range of services and programs to seniors aged 60 and above to help ensure that they can live safely in their homes and still feel a part of a larger family. And we have taken it as our mission to do so in a manner that fosters independence, dignity and respect.

"Since I discovered The Caring Community, I wake up in the morning knowing that I have somewhere to go. Retired life used to be depressing. Now it's rich and full. You wouldn't believe all of the friends I've made."
—Henry Day

In just over 30 years, The Caring Community has evolved from a handful of conscientious and industrious neighbors into the largest non-profit agency serving the elderly in Lower Manhattan. Our efforts have received acclaim and recognition from Government officials and satisfied members alike. And we feel this is just the beginning.

MESSAGE BOARD

Jane S. Pasanen, Past Chair of The Caring Community Board, to be remembered at Gus’s Place on September 20

In October 2007 The Caring Community (TCC) lost a friend and leader when Jane S. Pasanen, past Board Chair died. Ironically, Jane passed away on the evening of TCC’s 2007 Annual Gala which she chaired for several years.

Jane Pasanen’s life and contributions to The Caring Community will be celebrated on Saturday, September 20 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at Gus’s Place, 192 Bleecker Street. This fundraising event is being given by Gus Theodoro, owner of Gus’s Place and long-time friend of the Pasanen family. For a suggested contribution of $50, attendees can visit Gus’s Place on a Saturday afternoon and enjoy wine and light refreshments while contributing to a fund established by The Caring Community to honor the memory of one of its most beloved leaders.

Mr. Theodoro, who has partnered with the agency on past fundraisers said, “I am pleased to honor Jane in this way. She was a friend for decades and introduced me to The Caring Community several years ago.” Arthur Makar, TCC’s Executive Director, remarked, “It is fitting to celebrate Jane and The Caring Community at Gus’s Place, which is where she and I had our last meal together.”

For more information about the event or to make a contribution to the Jane S. Pasanen Fund, contact Arthur Makar at 212-777-3555 x118.
