About Us
"The Caring Community has been my home away from home for the last 28 years! Now as I get older, I know they will help me live independently for as long as I want to, and that means so much."
—Flo Amarosa
Our Mission
Since our founding in 1973, the mission of The
Caring Community has been to serve the active
and frail elderly of Greenwich Village and Lower
Manhattan in a manner that fosters independence,
dignity and respect.
Our goal is to assist and empower senior citizens
so that they may live safely in their homes,
and remain in the community for as long as they
are willing and able.
A combination of volunteer and professional staff
have kept the agency active and functioning,
and many of our seniors have been with us since
their retirement. We are currently serving
650 individual senior citizens. However, we also serve approximately
62,000 weekday congregate meals at our four senior
centers and approximately 60,000
homebound meals to our shut-ins (those clients
unable to leave their homes and/or cook for themselves)
seven days a week.
