Data Collection
Personal Information
We do not collect personally identifiable information from you unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. If you fill out our volunteer or membership applications, for example, we may collect your name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, Social Security Number, and additional personal information. We will use that information to process your application(s), which may include a background check conducted by a third party with which we have contracted for that purpose. As further described on the application, we will only conduct a background check if you have given us written permission to do so, although we may not be able to process your application without a background check.
If you provide personal information, we may enter that information into our database and may use that information to send you solicitations in support of TCC. If you don’t wish to receive these solicitations from us, simply indicate your preference to a TCC staff member, or Contact Us, or follow the directions within the email to unsubscribe.
You must promptly Contact Us if your personal information is or becomes inaccurate. It is very important to TCC to be able to reach you in order to keep supplying our services. Upon your request, we will close your membership account as soon as reasonably possible, in accordance with applicable law. We do retain personal information from closed accounts in order to comply with law, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigations, and take other actions otherwise permitted by law.
Standard web server traffic pattern information
General traffic, site usage and length of stay information are collected. This type of information is used to help TCC improve the functionality of our web site and such information is not linked to individual visitors.
Security Practices
TCC uses a variety of administrative, physical and technical measures designed to keep your personal information secured. For example, we use commercial-grade encryption and security protocols (Secure Socket Layer-SSL) when processing your membership and volunteer applications. This method is the industry standard security protocol, which makes it difficult for anyone to intercept the information you send us.
Our staff is educated about the importance of safeguarding your information, including TCC’s policy strictly prohibiting the unlawful disclosure of Social Security Numbers. We also restrict access to your personal information to those members of our staff and third parties with whom we have contracted who have a reasonable need to know that information.
However, such precautions do not guarantee that our web site is invulnerable to all security breaks. TCC makes no warranty, guarantee or representation that the use of our web site is protected from viruses, security threats or other vulnerabilities or that your information will always be secure.
Disclosure of Personal Information
As described above, TCC may disclose personally identifiable information in order to process your membership or volunteer applications, including a third-party background check. TCC may also disclose personally identifiable information you provide if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to: (a) comply with legal process; (b) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of us, our users and/or the public; or (c) in the event that all or substantially all of the assets of TCC are acquired by a third party.
Information Preservation and Disposal
TCC may preserve all personally identifiable information you disclose. Your information is stored on servers located in or managed from the United States. In accordance with TCC’s record retention policies, TCC’s policies require the destruction or erasure of electronic media and paper containing personal information so that the information cannot practicably be read or reconstructed.
