ABOUT US

Since our founding in 1973, The Caring Community has been dedicated to fostering a sense of community—friends, activities, meals, a helping hand—among local seniors.

The Caring Community is the largest nonprofit agency serving seniors in Greenwich Village. We work to ensure that seniors may live safely in their homes and belong to a larger community. Our goal is to assist and empower people 60 and older, and our dedicated staff and volunteers make it their mission to do so in a manner that fosters independence, dignity and respect.

We help seniors focus on wellness, cultivate friendships, expand their horizons and enrich their lives. Our four centers offer meals, classes, activities, Internet access and day trips. We also provide a range of services, from money management to doctors’ escorts.

Our service to the community has been recognized with several honors, including a Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Greenwich Village & Chelsea Chamber of Commerce in 2006.

The Caring Community operates at four locations in downtown Manhattan, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We invite you to join our community, at Center on the Square on Washington Square Park or at one of our additional centers in Greenwich Village and Tribeca.

“The Caring Community has been my home away from home for the last 28 years! Now as I get older, I know they will help me live independently for as long as I want to, and that means so much.”
