Welcome to the Community
The name of our neighborhood says it all, really: Greenwich Village. In a sprawling borough comprised largely of impersonally-named sectors like Upper West Side, Lower East side and Alphabet City, Greenwich Village has always suggested a rare sense of community. And what is a community if not a group of people that look out for one another in their time of need? It is this question that is at the heart of what we, The Caring Community, are all about.

Since our founding in 1973, the goal of The Caring Community has been to assist and empower the senior citizens of the Greenwich Village area to remain part of a thriving community environment for as long as they are willing and able. With the generous service of over 1000 volunteers and our dedicated core staff, we offer a wide range of services and programs to seniors aged 60 and above to help ensure that they can live safely in their homes and still feel a part of a larger family. And we have taken it as our mission to do so in a manner that fosters independence, dignity and respect.

"Since I discovered The Caring Community, I wake up in the morning knowing that I have somewhere to go. Retired life used to be depressing. Now it's rich and full. You wouldn't believe all of the friends I've made."
—Henry Day

In just over 30 years, The Caring Community has evolved from a handful of conscientious and industrious neighbors into the largest non-profit agency serving the elderly in Lower Manhattan. Our efforts have received acclaim and recognition from Government officials and satisfied members alike. And we feel this is just the beginning.

Partially funded by the NYC Department for the Aging.
